Crazy snowstorm moved through the area, and did reach Blizzard conditions at times! Out of all the snowstorm this year,
this was by far the toughest to forecast. As models a couple days out a major snowstorm for areas in New England and a near
miss. The all of the sudden, the models significantly trended west and we were in the storm. Closer we got the storm, the wetter
the models were. So snow amounts were on the rise. But local Meteorologist were extremely cautious as they compared it to
the 2001 John Bolaris "Storm of the Century. Where he claimed a monster storm was coming, schools closed in advance,
and the storm went east and we received little if any snow. But this storm was very different. The storm would Triple Phase
and stop its North north east motion and turn due west. The storm retrograded back towards the area, bringing in heavy snows.
The storm continued all through friday and the low was at once near cape cod, then moved over Long Island. Just a crazy storm.
We ended up getting somewhere between 15-20 inches. But it was so tough to measure from the drifting of the snow for hours
on end. Drifts exceeding 3 feet were common as you will see in the pictures. Below are some satelite images Courtesy of Nasa.gov

Below is an image sent to me by my buddy Nicholas Long, who was following the storm with me. It is a image of the Jet
Stream, just to show you how powerful this storm really was!!!
Below are images from the NAM model. First shows the amount of precipitation from the storm in a 6 hr period at hr 72! This
is when the models really started hinting toward a huge snowstorm for the northeast. The other image is also from the nam,
and it is the 500 mb Vort. Just incredible sight they we may not seen on models for a while.
Below is a picture i got from one of the blogs on Accuweather. This is showing the pressure drops during the storm i believe
along long island. The storm reached CAT 2 HURRICANE strength
| Low was located near nyc at the time. Retrograding |
